Visiting Hospice Services

We provide non-medical support by trained volunteers and will visit individuals and families in the home, the hospital or long-term care facilities.  Depending on the wishes and needs of the individual/family, visits can be weekly or more frequent.

Our care will begin with a confidential needs assessment and then a volunteer(s) will be carefully matched.

Our volunteers provide support such as:

  • Companionship, listening, and reading aloud
  • Simple comfort measures and position changes
  • Bedside vigilance while family members rest
  • The opportunity for family caregivers to feel comfortable in taking time away from the bedside.

It isn’t unusual for people to be unaware of hospice services when they are confronted with the news that they, or a family member has been diagnosed with a terminal or life-limiting illness.  The news can be overwhelming and the task of trying to figure out and access the services that are needed can be daunting.

Bruce Peninsula Hospice provides visiting support for individuals and their families coping with progressive life limiting illnesses such as cancer, dementia, lung or kidney disease, and palliative stage heart disease. Bruce Peninsula Hospice works cooperatively with physicians, palliative care teams, clergy and all community health care providers.

Our Hospice volunteer visitors are mature, caring members of our community who have been carefully screened and trained to deliver support and services, with sensitivity, to people facing life-limiting or terminal illness while honouring and respecting their dignity and privacy.

Our service area includes Wiarton, Sauble Beach, Hepworth, Mar, Stokes Bay, Lion’s Head, Tobermory, Kemble, Big Bay and surrounding rural areas.

Visiting hospice service can begin with a referral from individuals, families, health professionals and clergy.
