Susan McCallum: 2021 June Callwood Award Winner

We are proud to announce Susan McCallum as the recipient of the 2021 June Callwood Award for Bruce Peninsula Hospice. 

This award was established in 1994 by Hospice Palliative Care Ontario to acknowledge and thank outstanding hospice volunteers throughout Ontario. 

Susan has volunteered with Bruce Peninsula Hospice since 2013. Providing excellent hospice service to a community requires a committed Board of Directors with attention to details that ensures support for everyone on the front line. Susan provides exemplary service within the Board of Directors in her role as Treasurer.  She is a significant fundraiser and oversees financial administration including our annual Hike for Hospice.  When asked for comment Susan said, “I was surprised to receive the award because I thought it only went to Client Care Volunteers”. 

Having had careers in both nursing and finance, she brings caring and skill to the organization.  She gives generously of her time and provides support that benefits others in the organization.  She comments that “it was a steep learning curve when she first got started but very much enjoys serving as Treasurer”.   Susan is a great example to all of us of how life skills and training can be applied to volunteerism and an ongoing commitment to healthy communities.  Her steadfast involvement with BPH is a much welcomed gift.    

Susan says she “feels honoured” to be part of the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers.  Susan… the honour is ours.  And we thank you for all you do that makes us strong.
