Paul Lavigne and Gail Smart

2024’s Outstanding Volunteer Awards for the Town of South Bruce Peninsula

Each year, we are invited to nominate our amazing volunteers for the Town of South Bruce Peninsula’s Outstanding Volunteer Awards. This year was no exception, and we are pleased to announce that both Paul Lavigne and Gail Smart were recipients of the 2024 Awards.

Paul is one of our “behind the scenes” volunteers. He has been with us for over 10 years, and has worked tirelessly under many different hats. He has been a member of several of our committees and is currently Chairing two of them, as well as having served as Board Chair from 2016-2021. Paul is hard-working and dedicated, and we are grateful to have him as a Bruce Peninsula Hospice Volunteer.

Gail is a Bereavement volunteer, and as such, meets, in confidence, with a number of individuals in our community who are grieving. She states “walking alongside clients as they work through their grief is an absolute honour and brings such a sense of fulfillment and joy.” Gail has a compassionate heart and a willingness to help others, and we are grateful she is a Bruce Peninsula Hospice Volunteer.

Christina Mereu

June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers 2023 Recipient

Christina Mereu was inducted into the Circle on June 11, 2023 at the annual Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) Conference in Toronto. Christina has been an invaluable member of Bruce Peninsula Hospice since 2014. She brings compassion, a deep understanding of hospice palliative care and a collaborative approach as an In-Home Client Care Volunteer, committee member and past Chair of our Community Education Committee. She is a gifted writer and communicator contributing significantly in the preparation of many media articles, funding proposals and publications. Christina was instrumental in creating the Bruce Peninsula Hospice ‘25 Years of Caring Service’ video as writer, narrator, director and editor. She is an outstanding Volunteer and we are pleased to recognize her with this award.

Christina exemplifies the spirit of generosity, by providing compassionate care to hospice clients and their families and offering her gifts as a talented community educator.

Anita Cunningham

2023 Northern Bruce Peninsula’s Annual Volunteer Recognition

We were so honoured on April 19th to recognize Anita Cunningham, at the Municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula’s Annual Volunteer Recognition Day.
Anita joined us in 2014 as an In-Home Hospice volunteer, making herself available to provide caring for people in their homes and at Golden Dawn. She has also become a Bereavement volunteer, helping people understand and navigate their grief journey with her knowledge, active listening skills and compassion.

Thank you Anita!
