Bruce Peninsula Hospice is proud to recognize Gail Smart for being named the 2025 recipient of the June Callwood Award for Outstanding Hospice Volunteers, presented by Hospice Palliative Care Ontario. Gail has also been formally inducted into the June Callwood Circle of Outstanding Volunteers, a prestigious recognition honouring hospice volunteers across Ontario who demonstrate extraordinary compassion, dedication, and service.

Gail began her hospice journey with three years of volunteer service at Hospice Huronia before moving to Wiarton and joining Bruce Peninsula Hospice. Since then, Gail has made a lasting impact through In-Home Support, facilitating Bereavement Support Groups, and Coordinating 1-to-1 Bereavement Support. She also leads Then & Now, a monthly connection program for those navigating loss.

Gail’s personal journey with grief has given her a profound ability to support others with empathy and compassion. As she says, “walking alongside people as they work through their grief is an absolute honour and brings such a sense of fulfillment and joy.”

Gail is an exemplary volunteer and a true gift to our community.
