About Us

Bruce Peninsula Hospice is a community charitable organization connecting individuals and families with local volunteers for in-home social, practical, emotional and bereavement support.

We are Local People, Helping Local People

For nearly thirty (30) years, our team of volunteers and staff have been providing a compassionate presence and specialized programs to individuals and families needing to cope with declining health, serious illness, or the death of a loved one.

We are an accredited, non-medical, in-home, and community-based hospice on the Bruce Peninsula providing care and support through:

  • In-home services like respite care, emotional support and limited physical support
  • Companionship (reading, playing cards, listening, conversation, etc.)
  • Community connection (assistance sourcing local resources and help arranging appointments)
  • Bereavement support groups

Our Mission

Bruce Peninsula Hospice is committed to providing compassionate and non-medical care to support individuals and families at no cost on the Bruce Peninsula and surrounding area.

Our Vision

We believe…

  • A successful relationship starts with respect— respect for the client, their family, their culture and their choices.
  • In ensuring in-home care and support services are accessible in all areas of the Bruce Peninsula.
  • That non-medical in-home support is a crucial part of quality of life care and grief support.
  • That the earlier care and support can be provided, the better effect it can have on an individual’s or family’s quality of life.
  • In the continued development of our specialized volunteer team through ongoing training, education and support.
  • In maintaining our Hospice Palliative Care Ontario accredition and other key certifications to ensure clients receive the best support possible.

We believe in a Circle of Care approach to providing care and support.

Bruce Peninsula Hospice is a Hospice Palliative Care Ontario (HPCO) accredited organization and registered charity. For nearly 30 years, our team of volunteers and staff have specialized in providing care and compassion to individuals and families on the Bruce Peninsula.

Through community fundraising, generous donations and occasional grant funding, we are proud to be able to provide all of our support services and programs free of charge.

From materials like our Stepping Stones Planning Guide to seminars and educational events, we place an emphasis on having helpful resources readily available for both individuals and families

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Bruce Peninsula Hospice operate and offer its services?

As an in-home and community-based care and support provider, Bruce Peninsula Hospice is equipped to provide the necessary care and support programs for individuals and families living in all areas of the Bruce Peninsula, including Tobermory, Lion’s Head, Sauble Beach, Wiarton, Shallow Lake and the surrounding communities and rural areas.

When should someone contact Bruce Peninsula Hospice?

Whether experiencing declining health, serious illness or the death of a loved one, or simply planning for the future to maintain the best quality of life possible, Bruce Peninsula Hospice is equipped to care for and support individuals and families at all stages.

For individuals and families in the early stages of their journey, our volunteer team can assist with personal care planning through our Stepping Stones guide, providing services to enable one to live at home longer and identifying the need for care and support earlier.

And as one continues through the phases of their journey, our team can continue to care for and support the needs of the individual and their family by managing declining health through a variety of social and in-home services, helping to cope with the experience of death and dying and providing other non-medical hospice palliative care needs.

Individuals and families can also contact Bruce Peninsula Hospice if they find themselves feeling alone with their experiences of grief or struggling to cope with the death of a loved one.

Why should someone contact Bruce Peninsula Hospice?

With programs and services in place to assist at all stages of the health journey, we encourage families, individuals and healthcare providers to contact us at the first sign that non-medical care or support could be of assistance.

We assist and receive referrals and requests for support from seniors, older adults, families, caregivers and other individuals of all walks of life, including:

  • Those who have limited support systems nearby
  • Families who require assistance caring for their loved one
  • Individuals who wish to age in place at home as long as they can
  • Family members living at a distance who have concerns for their loved ones
  • Caregivers who require respite or other non-medical assistance
